New Delhi: The latest government data has embarrassed the Narendra Modi government. As the government gears up to celebrate 3 years in office, the labour data shows a dismal situation on the employment front. While, the government continues to claim that lakhs of jobs have been created in last three year, it' own data says that job opportunities have been far less than compared to the economic growth rate.
Based on the government data, a report in a national daily says that the worst is still to come. Already the IT and BPO companies are on a mjor retrenchment drive, recent reports suggest. This is not music to the ears of youth, a segment that has shown unflinching faith in PM Modi.
According to Labour Bureau data covering eight key sectors of the non-farm economy, while the economy grew at just over 7% per year, jobs have increased by just 1.1% last year. This clearly is a big challenge for Modi government, which is gearing up for another 5-yera stint at the Centre. Tackling unemployement will be a major headache for PM Modi in dayas to come.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, who is known to touch all issues concerning common man, had also promised to address the jobs situation in UP. The state itself has an estimated 1 crore unemployed, according to the report.
Nearly half of the new jobs added were in education and health. Both these sectors are known for low paying jobs. Construction and the hospitality/food sectors showed loss of jobs, with construction secter alone recrding a 7% loss in jobs .
